Jake Doyle is on the mend following a successful operation this week. Fightful Select reported on Friday that Doyle, formerly known as Jake Something, is recovering after undergoing surgery for a biceps injury suffered during a match that took place last month.
“Jake Something had successful surgery to repair his injury this week,” the report stated.
The injury occurred during the January 28 edition of AEW Dynamite in Austin, Texas. Doyle and Mark Davis were challenging FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. During the bout, Doyle took a DDT from Cash Wheeler on the apron. In an attempt to control his landing, Doyle held onto the top rope while hitting the floor, which caused the tear.
Doyle immediately yelled out that he had torn his bicep, which was confirmed by Bryan Alvarez a moment later. Despite the legitimate injury, Doyle and Davis finished the match, eventually losing to FTR after interference from Jon Moxley and the Death Riders.
Don Callis Family Debut
Doyle joined AEW at the start of the year after his contract with TNA Wrestling expired on January 1. He made his official debut on the January 7 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he was revealed as the newest member of the Don Callis Family.
Aligned with Mark Davis, the duo quickly found success. They won a number one contender’s four-way tag team match in their debut as a team and defeated the independent duo of Alec Price and Jordan Oliver shortly before their championship opportunity against FTR.
Recovery for a torn bicep typically lasts between four to six months. This timeframe would put Doyle’s potential return in the summer, though AEW has not provided an official return date. We wish him a speedy recovery.
