Kota Ibushi has been released from the hospital, he announced on social media Tuesday night. Ibushi had been hospitalized for the last two weeks after suffering a broken femur during an AEW Collision match that aired on October 11.
In his post, Ibushi took time to thank the medical staff, AEW President Tony Khan, Kenny Omega, Michael Nakazawa, and the fans for their help and support during his stay. The injury occurred when Ibushi was on the shoulders of Josh Alexander on the top rope.
Ibushi fell from the position and crashed-landed on the floor outside the ring, resulting in a broken femur. He lost the match via count-out and was eventually stretchered out following an angle involving the Don Callis Family.
During his hospitalization, Ibushi provided updates on his condition and noted that doctors informed him it would likely take two years before he could get back in the ring. Ibushi, however, remains defiant against that timeline. “One year to fully recover. Two years until I can step into the ring again. I believe in myself more than the doctors,” Ibushi said. “I absolutely don’t believe in that. I know I have amazing DNA that gives me the ability to heal!!”
This is the latest in a series of difficult injuries for Ibushi over the last few years. He suffered a major shoulder injury during the G1 Climax finals in 2021 that kept him out for an extended period. After returning, he suffered another injury in January 2024 during a match in Pro Wrestling NOAH.
In a new statement following his release, Ibushi noted he has lost 12.4 kg and is currently using a wheelchair, but called this “just the beginning” of his recovery. He also expressed deep gratitude for the support from AEW management, specifically mentioning Tony Khan’s dedication and a contract extension. We wish him a speedy recovery.
