AEW Star Has A New Backstage Role

A new report has revealed that another veteran AEW star, “The Premier Athlete” Tony Nese, has been working in a backstage capacity for the company. According to Fightful Select, the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion has been serving as a coach and producer.

Tony Nese Working As An AEW Coach

The report states that Nese was listed internally as a producer for a match on this past Saturday’s episode of AEW Collision. When asked about the listing, AEW sources confirmed that he has been working in that role “for quite some time,” though it had not been publicly known until now.

A 20-Year Veteran’s New Role

Nese has been a professional wrestler for 20 years, competing in major promotions such as TNA, WWE, and now AEW. While he has become less active as an in-ring competitor over the last couple of years, he remains a semi-regular talent on Ring of Honor TV.

On ROH programming, he frequently teams with his longtime tag team partner, Ariya Daivari.  Nese is the latest in a growing list of veteran performers in AEW who have taken on a dual role as both an in-ring talent and a backstage coach/producer. The full report on Tony Nese’s new role can be found on Fightful Select.
