AEW Star Not Expected To Wrestle Again For At Least 2 Years

AEW star Kota Ibushi has provided an update on the severe leg injury he suffered at the October 8th AEW Collision taping, stating that while doctors have told him he faces a two-year recovery before he can wrestle again, he intends to prove them wrong.

In a post on his Instagram account, which included a video of his leg in a cast, Ibushi revealed the severity of the injury and the daunting recovery timeline presented to him. “My current condition. One year to fully recover. Two years until I can step into the ring again,” he wrote.

However, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion immediately expressed his determination to return to action sooner. “I believe in myself more than the doctors. I absolutely don’t believe in that,” his post continued. “I know I have amazing DNA that gives me the ability to heal!! I don’t believe it.”

“How many injuries have I healed with my absolute healing power since I was young? I’ll prove that this doesn’t apply.”

The injury occurred during his match with Josh Alexander at the AEW Collision taping in Jacksonville, Florida. During a spot on the top turnbuckle, Ibushi fell awkwardly to the floor. The match was stopped, and he was stretchered away from the ringside area and taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

This latest setback is another in a long series of significant injuries for Ibushi. He was previously on the shelf for nearly two years after a severe shoulder dislocation in the finals of the NJPW G1 Climax tournament in October 2021. Since his return to wrestling in March 2023, his time in the ring has been hampered by other issues, including significant damage to both of his ankles during a match for Pro Wrestling NOAH in January 2024.

Ibushi officially signed with AEW in July 2023, and recently announced a new two-year contract extension with the company in August.

More information will be provided as it becomes available. We wish Kota Ibushi a full and speedy recovery.
