Shawn Spears returned to AEW TV on Dynamite and this time, he is back to using a gimmick he used years ago when he was in NXT.
Spears went out towards the ring to align himself with FTR, his former stablemates in The Pinnacle. As he walked out to the ring, a “10” was shown on the big screen and fans did the chant. FTR also noted that “!0” is the time when Rampage airs. Spears did not actually do the “10” gesture so it’s possible that he may not be allowed to do it because of copyright issues.
Spears’ return happened in his hometown in Toronto and it was prompted after the WarJoe vs. Nick Comoroto and QT Marshall match. After the match, Prince Nana went out to the ring with The Embassy to issue a challenge.
The segment led to a match being set up for Rampage. It will be FTR and Spears taking on The Embassy’s Brian Cage and Gates of Agony. The show will be taped this Thursday in Toronto.
The last time Spears wrestled was on the 5/25 episode of Dynamite and he recently tweeted and deleted a tweet teasing that he was saying “goodbye” to AEW. His return tonight makes it clear that he is still with the company.
