AEW star Buddy Matthews is set to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, as he confirmed today that he is undergoing ankle surgery.

Matthews has been largely absent from AEW programming in recent weeks. This surgery now provides a reason for his time away from the ring as he begins his recovery. The specific nature of the ankle injury and a potential timetable for his return have not yet been disclosed.
Brody King, who has long been associated with Buddy in AEW, has been competing in the AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament alongside his partner Bandido, under the team name “Brodido.” It is unknown when Matthews will be cleared to return to the ring.
