AEW Star Was Knocked Out During Collision Match

This week’s episode of AEW Collision was taped before Saturday’s broadcast, as it was recorded last Wednesday following Dynamite in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

During it, there was a scary moment as Dalton Castle was legitimately knocked out during his match with Roderick Strong. It happened when Strong connected with a jumping knee strike to the jaw, causing Castle to drop to the mat. There were a few camera cuts while the referee counted the pinfall.

It led to Strong earning the right to challenge Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Title at Death Before Dishonor. Dave Meltzer reported the scary moment while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer: “So what happened was a flying knee that knocked out Dalton Castle.”

Bryan Alvarez: “So he did get knocked out.”

Meltzer: “He got knocked.”

Alvarez: “Okay. That’s what I thought.”

Meltzer: “He got knocked out. The referee counts 1-2, held up the count because it wasn’t supposed to be the pin, then counted the 3 because Dalton Castle never moved. They didn’t show Dalton Castle. He was on the ground for several minutes, so they didn’t show any of that.”

Alvarez: “That sucks.”

Meltzer: “You could see the edit, but the edit was the referee held up the count. Dalton didn’t kick out, and then the referee had to count the three because Dalton wasn’t getting up. In the building, this was a complete mess, and they were very lucky that this week’s show was taped for this reason. Not a good one.”
