AEW stars planned for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event

AEW will have a presence at the upcoming NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event in early January 2023.

The two promotions have had a working relationship over the last few years and recently held their first official crossover event, Forbidden Door, in June.

Then-AEW Champion Chris Jericho worked Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jon Moxley defeated Lance Archer for the IWGP US Title at the 2020 event.

Also, several AEW stars have visited Japan this year including Wheeler YUTA competing in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, and Lance Archer wrestling in the G1 Climax.

Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that there are plans for certain AEW wrestlers to compete at the 2023 event.

“I don’t know how many, but I have, in fact, been told of certain plans for AEW wrestlers on Wrestle Kingdom…..There are plans for certain AEW guys to be at the Tokyo Dome show.”
