AEW’s Jake Hager to grapple former UFC Champion Jon Jones?

Jon Jones could be set to compete again after being on the sidelines for a few years, but it won’t be inside of the Octagon for the UFC. Instead, he will be competing at the Fury Grappling event on December 9 in New Jersey against AEW star Jake Hager.

The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion shared the news today on Twitter by writing the following:

“Breaking News!! I’m excited to announce I’ll be competing for the number one grappling organization in the world, Fury Grappling!” Jones wrote. “December 9, I’ll be in New Jersey competing against WWE Superstar and undefeated Bellator heavyweight Jack Swagger.”

Jones was corrected by fans that Hager no longer goes by Jack Swagger since WWE owns the rights to the name. However, Hager later took to Twitter to dispute that nothing has been signed to make it official:

Hager has fought four times thus far in his pro-MMA career where he has earned a record of 3-0 with one no contest. He hasn’t fought since October 2020 where he got a split decision victory over Brandon Calton.

Jones hasn’t had a pro-MMA fight since February 2020 when he earned a unanimous decision win over Dominick Reyes to retain the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. He has been training for his heavyweight debut.
