Paul Wight and Tony Khan appeared on Busted Open Radio a few days ago. The interviews took place before the Double Or Nothing pay-per-view so there was plenty of talk about the card but there was also talk about some of the rising talent in AEW.
Here are some highlights:
Paul Wight talking about some of the AEW talent that he likes and hinted that he will return to the ring:
“There have been a couple that have grown to be my favorites. Some of the Dark Order guys. I did a sit down interview with John Silver. He’s got a great story, great desire, and a great passion. As far as characters go, and I always talk about it on our show, Elevation, she makes me uncomfortable and nervous, but actually, I have so much admiration for what she’s created and what she’s done is Abadon. In the wrestling business, it’s very hard to be unique, be different and get something that has a chance to really get over with time with her Abadon character. It’s nice to see that the wheel can be invented, so to speak. Then when you look at raw, athletic ability, Jade Cargill. She’s just unreal. You look at her and her attitude is right. She’s humble. She’s hard working. She busts her a*s in the gym, but she’s got presence. No matter how hard you work, no matter how hard you hip toss or take a hip toss, it’s about presence. There are some people that are going to draw no matter what they do. It’s nice to see her right now applying herself, staying focused, and hardworking with it. It’s really easy when you get that kind of hype coming out of the gate to lose yourself. To see her focus and commitment is really good. There’s a lot of talent. There’s a lot of guys I’m looking forward to working with too. Lance Hoyt, I’m looking forward to working with him, the Murder Hawk. I would love to run with Kenny Omega. I think Kenny Omega and I can definitely have a lot of fun. Jericho is there. Hangman Adam Page would be a lot of fun to work with. Billy’s kids are there, Austin and Colten. I just have to get in the ring with them so I can chop the everloving sh*t out of them just because.”
Tony Khan gave the backstory of meeting Anthony Ogogo:
“Anthony Ogogo, the backstory of him, and this is the truth, Cody introduced us. When I was looking to sign up talent, he was somebody Cody introduced me to. I met up with him in England and we hung out in London. I brought him to Craven Cottage and people were very excited to see Anthony Ogogo. He’s a household name in England. He’s an Olympic medalist. He’s a great boxer. Boxing is a huge sport in England. They love boxing in England. Anthony Ogogo is also a very famous spokesperson and a great athlete. It made sense to train him for wrestling…Anthony Ogogo left boxing because of an injury. He has an eye injury. In one of his eyes, he’s 78% blind, which is why he left boxing.”
