Once AEW signed an extension with TNT in January 2020, there’s been speculation about when a second show on TNT would premiere. The belief is that it would be coming in the fall of this year.
Earlier this week it was revealed NBC Sports opted not to renew its long-running deal with NHL and Turner Sports has now signed up to share the TV rights for the league with ESPN. Turner Sports is under the banner of WarnerMedia, which owns the likes of TNT and TBS.
It’s likely AEW Dynamite will stay in its timeslot, and NHL will probably end up on TBS or a different night.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW Dynamite could be affected during the Stanley Cup playoffs, but it’s not a major concern.
Meltzer wrote, “however, this could affect the proposed second weekly AEW show, which was scheduled to begin in the fall.”
Just like with the NBA Playoffs, AEW is sometimes preempted for the sports league. This could happen with the NHL as well for its playoffs. Next month, AEW will be moving to a different night due to the NBA.
