Andrade Explains Why He No Longer Wears A Mask

Andrade participated in a question-and-answer session on Instagram, offering fans insight into his friendships within professional wrestling and his dream matches. During the Q&A, Andrade was specifically asked about his experiences teaming with Rey Fenix during his WWE tenure.

An Unbreakable Bond with Rey Fenix

The former partners developed a close relationship, which Andrade described as becoming like brothers. “This dude brought out my angel. When we were wrestling, we were always chatting about stories and where we’d go eat after. We were always chill and brainstorming new ideas. We became great bros.” Andrade further commented on the relationships he holds with other influential figures in the wrestling industry.

When asked if he is friends with Mistico, Andrade responded that he has close ties to multiple wrestlers who have worn the mask and portrayed the character. He recounted a strong friendship with the performer known in WWE as Sin Cara (now Cinta de Oro), noting the impact this wrestler had on his career by helping him get to SmackDown. “I’ve been friends with the previous Místico (@cintadeoro) — we built a great friendship in WWE, and he helped me get to SmackDown,” Andrade revealed.

His mentorship also came from the original Mistico (now Carístico), who guided him early in his career in CMLL when Andrade wrestled as LA SOMBRA. He wrote: “I’m friends with the original Místico, the first Sin Cara (@caristico_official). He was my mentor in the Gran Alternativa tournament and supported me early on when I was LA SOMBRA in CMLL.”

Dream Opponents and Contractual Uncertainty

When asked to list his top five dream opponents, Andrade found it challenging to narrow down the list, ultimately naming seven legends and current stars. His complete list of dream opponents included: “Hulk Hogan, Eddie Guerrero, Ric Flair, Will Ospreay, Roman, El Santo, Inoki”.

In a lighter moment during the Q&A, a fan asked Andrade why he no longer wears a mask, to which Andrade answered, “Because I’m handsome! Just kidding, it’s heavy!!” Additionally, he gave a detailed response when asked about the intensity of Último Guerrero’s chops. He responded that the power of the chops varied, depending on the circumstances: “It depends! Sometimes it’s like an 8, and when he’s mad it’s almost a 9. Other times it’s a 7. He hits hard”.

Andrade’s release from WWE in September was reportedly due to multiple Wellness Policy violations. Although Andrade briefly returned to AEW on October 1, aligning with the Don Callis Family, he has not appeared on AEW programming since due to a reported dispute over his WWE non-compete clause. TKO is reportedly claiming that his firing for due cause means that Andrade should be subject to a one-year non-compete clause, which would prohibit him from appearing for AEW or any other major promotion for that period.
