Another Top AEW Star Reportedly Taking Time Off

Following his high-profile loss at the AEW All In: Texas pay-per-view, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega is reportedly expected to take some time off from the company. The news comes after Omega was absent from this past week’s television tapings.

Kenny Omega Expected To Take Time Off

According to a report from Fightful Select, AEW sources have indicated that Omega is set for a hiatus. It is not yet known what specifically he is taking time off for, or whether his absence will be for a consecutive period or more sporadic. This past weekend’s match at All In was his tenth since returning from a career-threatening battle with diverticulitis.

Storyline Follows All In Defeat

Omega’s absence from this week’s AEW Dynamite followed his defeat at the hands of Kazuchika Okada in a “Winner Takes All” match at All In. During the Dynamite broadcast, his former manager, Don Callis, repeatedly and callously referred to Omega as “dead” following the loss, providing a storyline reason for his time away.

Omega’s expected hiatus comes at a time of significant change for the AEW main event scene. As has been previously reported, Will Ospreay is also taking time off to heal from injuries. Additionally, Samoa Joe has begun a brief hiatus to handle promotional work for “Twisted Metal.”
