Anthony Ogogo is slated to work his biggest match to date in his tenure with All Elite Wrestling thus far, but will have to do so with a broken rib.
The wrestler will take on Cody Rhodes in a singles match at this Sunday’s Double Or Nothing pay-per-view from Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place.
The former Olympic boxer shared in an interview with the Metro.uk that he suffered the injury while practicing a standing elbow drop during training this week.
“I’m sitting here now – I’m very, very open and honest, probably too open and honest… But I am who I am, I do what I do. I’ve got a broken rib right now. My rib’s broken because I did a move in training this week. I did it wrong, and I broke a rib. I’m now wrestling Cody, the best wrestler in the world, with a broken rib… And that’s real, that’s not me just saying that. My rib is f***ed.”
It should be noted that Ogogo did box in the Olympics with a broken rib. He also dealt with dislocated shoulders and a fractured eye socket while boxing. It turns out that he only has 22% vision in his left eye.
With everything mentioned above, it’s clear that he is a tough guy and will gut it out when he steps into the squared circle this weekend.
Ogogo also talked about facing Rhodes, the AEW Executive bringing him into the promotion, and more. Check out the full interview here.
