As noted, Kris Statlander was slated to challenge AEW Women’s Champion Riho for the strap on next week’s episode of Dynamite on TNT in Jacksonville, FL.
AEW announced on Friday that she had been pulled from the contest due to prior commitments.
As a result, changes had to be made. Riho will defend her title against Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, and Hikaru Shida in a Fatal 4-Way Match. Statlander will then face the winner of this championship match on January 8th.
In an update, Dave Meltzer noted in the Daily Update on F4Wonline.com that there was a communications issue between the two sides as AEW runs Wednesdays with their weekly TV show and normally, independent wrestling promotions don’t hold shows on Wednesdays.
Thus, AEW usually books talent without worrying about other dates. This is a rare case and AEW officials didn’t know about the other date as Statlander had just started and was booked for both Tuesday and Wednesday this coming week for Bar Wrestling.
Statlander is scheduled to face Priscilla Kelly on New Year’s Eve and on Gisele Shaw the following night at the shows in the Los Angeles area.
With the type of contract that Statlander has, AEW could’ve pulled her from her previous bookings just like WWE has done in previous instances. Statlander asked for the favor and they were able to work it out.
