Backstage News On Bryan Danielson’s AEW World Heavyweight Title Win

As the main event in a title vs. career match, Swerve Strickland vs. Bryan Danielson took place at the AEW All In London 2024 pay-per-view event from Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon with the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on the line.

Near the end of the bout, Hangman Page came out before security stopped him. Bryan fought back and hit a series of running knee strikes, then the crossface, for the win. It was a feel-good moment for the longtime wrestler, as his family was sitting ringside and celebrating with him in the ring.

Fightful Select confirmed that Danielson had previously pushed back against winning titles in AEW. Still, he gave in to this situation, as AEW President Tony Khan was adamant that Danielson would eventually become AEW Champion.

Khan reportedly wanted the show to end with Danielson celebrating as the champion. Those they spoke with noted the decision for the main event was made “at least by April.” A match with Strickland and Will Ospreay hadn’t been planned, as one source said, “Ospreay will have chances to main event Wembley for years to come.”

Backstage, there were jokes about AEW doing a “reverse Montreal screwjob” to ensure that Danielson actually won the match.
