Backstage news on Erick Rowan’s AEW status after Dynamite appearance

Former WWE star Erick Rowan, who is now going by the name of Erick Redbeard, made a surprise appearance on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which was a tribute special for Jon Huber, better known as Brodie Lee/Luke Harper.

While together in WWE, Rowan and Huber were tag team partners. Huber passed away last weekend due to a non-COVID-related lung issue.

His appearance took place near the end of the six-man tag team match that saw Hangman Adam Page, Jon Silver, and Alex Reynolds vs. MJF, Santana, and Ortiz. Rowan came out and took out Wardlow with a slam. Following the match, Rowan held up a sign and started to cry.

Following this appearance, many fans wondered what Rowan’s status with All Elite Wrestling is going forward.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “his deal was just to make a special appearance on the Brodie Lee tribute show as a surprise.” Meltzer did point out that anything can change in the future.
