Backstage news on MJF wrestling while injured

AEW World Heavyweight Champion MJF suffered real injuries during the main event of the Full Gear 2023 pay-per-view event, where he worked two matches from Los Angeles at the Kia Forum, but he is not taking time off.

How it happened

MJF and Samoa Joe beat The Gunns in the ROH Tag Team Title match on the pre-show before retaining the World Heavyweight Title against Jay White in the main event. At the show, he suffered a real hip injury in the main event and needed it to be popped back in after the show, while he also suffered a real shoulder injury, which is a torn labrum.

He won’t be missing any TV time nor plans to get surgery to fix the torn labrum. He is slated to defend the World Heavyweight Title against Joe at Worlds End later this month. Before that happens, MJF and Joe will take on two mystery opponents next week on Dynamite.

The latest

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that MJF thinks he can get through this time by working carefully.

Meltzer wrote, “He won’t be getting surgery and is going to be working on stem cell therapy and rehab to get ready. Surgery would have put him out for a couple of months. Whether he will do a match between now and then is not known, but he believes he can do careful matches or smoke & mirror matches prior to the PPV.”

MJF had this exact same torn labrum when wrestling Jack Perry at Double or Nothing in 2020.
