It looks like Sting will go out with a bang when he retires at AEW Revolution in Greensboro, NC, with the plan to team with Darby Allin against The Young Bucks.
The feud
The program started on Wednesday night on Dynamite when the four men had a staredown after Sting and Allin worked a Texas Tornado Tag Team Match in the main event.
As previously reported, Sting has had a major say in his retirement match, and he’s been more keen on continuing to do tag team matches as opposed to singles matches. As of several weeks ago, the match was actively the plan, something that Sting was on board with.
The decision
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Tony Khan gave Sting the option to pick whoever he wanted to face in his retirement match besides anyone in WWE.
Meltzer wrote, “When he was asked who he wanted to face, they were his choice, as he loved doing the Forbidden Door 2022 match in Chicago (Sting & Allin & Shingo Takagi vs. Bucks & El Phantasmo).”
Original plans called for The Young Bucks to take more time off before returning. Once Sting asked them for the match, they decided to change their return plans.
