When AEW Collision first launched last year, the show on TNT that airs every Saturday night was originally planned to be built around CM Punk as he was exclusive to the show.
Pivot
However, All Elite Wrestling quickly pivoted away from that after Punk was released just months after the show premiered following his backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In.
Since then, the show has been built around several stars, including Eddie Kingston, Adam Copeland, and Bryan Danielson.
Mentality
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted the mentality among the top stars who work the show is trying to get newer talent over and making them bigger stars, unlike on Dynamite, where established stars wrestle each other. On Collision, top stars work with underneath stars that are not usually used in prominent roles.
“Well, the thing with the thing with Bryan Danielson is that like he’s….a lot of things the guys on Collision, with a lot of the guys, is there’s a mentality on that show with the guys who were you know if you want to call them the booker’s of the show or assistant booker’s because Tony’s the booker, but the assistant booker’s of the show, and their mentality is 100% ‘let’s get other people over but we still have to win’ because, you know, they’re key guys, whether it’s Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, can’t lose to hatch Hechicero. But he’s trying to get these guys, whatever it is, a job or whatever,” Meltzer stated.
