AEW announced on Saturday that CM Punk is no longer with the company as the promotion terminated his contract, and just like the rest of the wrestling world, those in AEW are processing the news.
As previously reported, AEW put out a statement announcing the news following an internal investigation into Punk’s physical altercation with Jack Perry before the main card of last Sunday’s All In pay-per-view event.
The issues between Punk and Perry dated back a few weeks prior to when Punk told Perry that he shouldn’t use real glass for an angle. Punk reportedly had a heated confrontation with Tony Khan after the situation and threatened to quit the promotion in the moment after the incident.
Pwinsider reports the reaction backstage at tonight’s Collision depends on the person as “some are really down on it. Others, as you can imagine, feel it was the right move and are happy about it.”
Some people have stated they’re happy Khan made the decision and they hope to move on with the focus on the promotion and shows.
