It appears AEW fans won’t have to wait much longer to see a match they’ve hoped to witness for years.
A dream match is being planned for this year, with preparations already underway. During AEW Revolution, Billie Starkz was seen watching TBS Champion Mercedes Mone’s match against Momo Watanabe.
On Dynamite this week, Mone went over Starkz to retain her title. After it, ROH World Women’s Champion Athena had some interesting social media posts about Mone, causing fans to think they may be building towards a match.
Sources within Fightful have confirmed that a match between Athena and Mone is the intended plan, with some sources suggesting it could happen as soon as AEW Dynasty. This has yet to be announced.
They have never faced each other in a singles match. Their last encounter was a 2018 triple threat match won by Athena, and they haven’t shared the ring in over six years.
