Booker T has criticized the use of a syringe as a weapon during the Texas Death Match between MJF and Hangman Adam Page at AEW Revolution, calling it a poor creative decision.
Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said he did not see the match live but heard about the syringe spot and had a clear reaction to it based on his own personal experiences. “I didn’t think it was in great taste,” Booker T said. “I don’t know what these guys think or understand about needles and drugs and whatnot, but I’ve walked in the room when I was a kid on someone in my family, close to my family, with the needle in their arm doing drugs.”
Booker T said the imagery carried significant personal weight for him. “I used to see the needles on the ground when I was a kid, because I was in places where I wasn’t supposed to be,” Booker T said. “To see something like that on television, knowing what it represents, it’s just in poor taste.”
Booker T was clear that his criticism was directed at the decision makers rather than MJF or Page. “That’s an executive decision,” Booker T said. “In my company, they might want to do something all the time, but they ain’t doing it because I refuse to let something go out there because of the way it’s going to be perceived and looked at.”
MJF defeated Hangman Adam Page in the Texas Death Match at AEW Revolution on March 15 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. If Page lost the match, he was permanently barred from challenging for the AEW World Championship. The syringe spot drew significant online discussion following the event.
