Britt Baker answered a fan asking her to return at All In this weekend with one word. Baker posted a picture from a beach. A fan replied wishing she would come back at Wembley on Sunday.
“Same,” she wrote.
It is the third time this month she has answered a question about her absence with a single word or a shrug. On August 20th, responding to a fan saying they missed her, she wrote the same thing. On August 14th, when asked where she had been, she wrote: “At the beach.”
She has not wrestled since November 13, 2024, when she beat Penelope Ford on Dynamite. That is approaching two years, and no reason for it has ever been given publicly.
Baker has been consistent that the decision is not hers. She said that in March, when a fan asked why she had not returned to Revolution alongside Adam Copeland, Christian Cage and Will Ospreay, putting her on television was not up to her.
Tony Khan has been equally consistent in the other direction, without ever attaching a date to it. He told the Battleground Podcast in February that Baker remains highly regarded and respected at AEW and that he expects to see her back, though he declined to say when.
“It’ll be a good thing for everybody when Britt returns, and I think it’s going to be very, very good in terms of AEW,” Khan said.
He had made similar comments to Z100 in New York in October 2025, and again in November when Baker removed AEW references from her social media accounts and skipped a Pittsburgh show in her home city.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful said in November 2025 that there were no creative plans in motion for her, and repeated it in January.
“At this point, I don’t think that we’re going to see her back,” Sapp said then. “Her deal goes well into 2026, but it’s been over a year. And at least the last time I spoke with her, she indicated that she was healthy.”
“I’ve heard no discussions regarding her in a long time outside of when we ask on media calls. I just, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
That changed slightly this month. Sapp said in a recent Fightful Select question and answer session that Baker’s name has been brought up internally in connection with the September 9th Dynamite, and that he had heard nothing beyond that. He also said he has no information suggesting she is injured, and described her as spending her time at the beach, visiting Rebel, and about to go to Steelers games rather than being around the company.
That September 9th show is a Rebel Heart special from the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia, dedicated to Tanea Brooks, who wrestled and worked backstage in AEW as Rebel and was diagnosed with ALS in March. AEW is running it in partnership with I AM ALS and Team Gleason, with proceeds from Rebel Heart merchandise going to I Am ALS. Rebel is scheduled to appear. Baker has not been announced.
The two were paired on screen through the early years of AEW and remain close. Baker took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in July, and the pair recorded a new edition of their old Waiting Room segment during a visit that Brooks posted to her own Instagram.
The speculation that followed Baker’s disappearance included claims that she was unpopular backstage, which no credible source ever reported, and Khan addressed this directly in February, saying she is very highly regarded and respected within the company.
The contract situation is what makes the next few weeks worth watching. Baker signed a five-year deal in 2021, which is understood to run at least through the autumn of 2026, though AEW could extend it to cover months she missed due to injury. That would push her free agency into 2027.
AEW is in Pittsburgh, Baker’s home city, for the September 30 Dynamite.
Baker was one of the central figures in AEW’s women’s division through its first years, winning the AEW Women’s World Championship in 2021 and holding it for 224 days, and won the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in 2022. Her last televised moment was a post-match segment with Serena Deeb in which she looked into the camera and said nobody cares.
All In takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, August 30.
