Britt Baker did an interview with Uproxx to discuss a wide range of topics including the women’s division in AEW.
The division has been criticized by fans due to the depth of the roster. Baker is one of the top stars of the division even though she has yet to hold the AEW Women’s Title.
While Baker understands there are plans to grow the division, fans need to watch the segments on Dynamite.
“We can’t have the women’s segments being the lowest rated or the lowest views [on YouTube] each week. Because at the end of the day it’s a business, and AEW needs ratings.”
Baker stated that AEW is in a war with WWE NXT so they need ratings to be up.
“It’s no secret we’re in a war every Wednesday night with NXT, so we need the ratings up. So for the fans that are so encouraging and saying “We want more women, we want more women!” that’s great, but please don’t turn the channel when the women are on TV then! We want everybody to be watching the segments and cheering us on from home.”
Baker brought up how the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the reasons that the division isn’t where the promotion wants it to be as the roster got hit hard with the outbreak. She stated that half of the roster is international talent and they don’t have access to any of those women. She also cited Kris Statlander getting hurt and how there’s only so much time that Dynamite has on a weekly two-hour program.
Baker also discussed the first year of the promotion, COVID-19 pandemic, and more. Check out the full interview here.
