Britt Baker is back in AEW.
On the Buy In pre-show for AEW All In: London at Wembley Stadium, CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone defeated Maya World to win the AEW TBS Championship. The finish came with help from a masked woman at ringside who interfered on Persephone’s behalf, and Persephone hit the Razor’s Edge for the pin. The masked woman then put World in the Lockjaw and removed the mask to reveal Baker.
It is Baker’s first AEW appearance since the November 13, 2024 episode of Dynamite, where she beat Penelope Ford and was then confronted by Serena Deeb. That confrontation was set up as the start of a feud that never happened. She has not been on AEW television in any form since, a stretch of just over 21 months.
Her last major match for the company was at All In 2024, also at Wembley Stadium, where she challenged Mercedes Mone for the TBS Championship and lost. She returns to the same building for the same title, on the other side of it.
Baker was the first woman signed by AEW in 2019 and is a former AEW Women’s World Champion. She won that title in 2021 and held it for 290 days, the second longest reign in the division’s history at the time, and she won the first Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament. For several years she was the most featured woman on the roster.
AEW kept the return quiet up to the bell. Tony Khan was asked about Baker on the August 27 media call and would neither confirm nor deny her involvement. He said she is an AEW original who was on the card the last time the company ran Wembley Stadium, and told fans to stay tuned, which is the answer he gives to every question about returns and debuts. Fightful Select reported ahead of the show that Baker was not in London.
The title match itself was a late addition. It was made official after the August 29 episode of AEW Collision, where World cut a promo filmed inside Wembley Stadium and challenged Persephone to face her on the Buy In. The challenge came out of the August 26 Dynamite, where World teamed with The Brawling Birds against Persephone and Divine Dominion and Persephone hit her with the TBS Championship and pinned her.
The two had met in singles competition once before, on the July 29 Dynamite, where World retained. They were also both in a four way for the title on the August 19 Dynamite alongside Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida, which World won.
World’s reign ends about five weeks after it began. She won the TBS Championship from Hikaru Shida at AEW Redemption on July 26 in Montreal and made two successful defences before Sunday. She had also reached the final of this year’s Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament, losing to Mercedes Mone, who challenges Willow Nightingale for the AEW Women’s World Championship later on the same card.
Persephone now holds the TBS Championship alongside the CMLL World Women’s Championship. Her run in AEW to this point has been built around the CMLL relationship, and the TBS Title is her first singles championship with the company.
AEW has not announced anything further involving Baker. The only indication of where she sits is the company she kept on the way in. Persephone has been working alongside Divine Dominion, who defend the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship against The Brawling Birds later on the same show, and Baker chose that side of the ring for her first appearance in almost two years.
