AEW started a program between Chris Jericho and Eddie Kingston last year that led to them wrestling each other at Revolution where Kingston beat the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

Jericho eventually turned on Santana & Ortiz, who were aligned with Kingston, and paired himself with Daniel Garcia, 2point0, and Jake Hager as the Jericho Appreciation Society.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Jericho noted that he originally wanted to form an all-babyface group with Kingston and Jon Moxley. He started out by noting that he didn’t have a big plan in place in November to break up The Inner Circle. However, he credits reading the room and evolving for causing him to change things up.

“My original idea was for maybe, Eddie, and (Jon) Moxley to be an alliance as babyfaces. I never really thought about turning heel. I always had this real romantic idea of never breaking up the Inner Circle and having us be together until the end. Once we started rolling and moving, I realized there was a lot we could do with it.”

Jericho recalled during a promo segment with Kingston where Eddie said he didn’t know why he was out there because this is pro wrestling and not sports entertainment. When he heard the fans boo the sports entertainment term, it got him thinking of how he could do something with it.

Kingston, Santana & Ortiz vs. Jericho, Garcia & Hager is slated to take place on Wednesday’s Dynamite.
