Chris Jericho recently gave his thoughts about the possibility of CM Punk joining All Elite Wrestling.
It’s been reported that Punk is in talks with the promotion and there were teases on AEW Dynamite last week. The promotion also sold out the United Center in Chicago for the August 20th episode of Rampage, which has been speculated about being the place where Punk makes his debut.
Jericho did an interview with Inside The Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh and noted that he would like to see Punk in the promotion because he’s one of the few guys out there that has this mythology surrounding him because he hasn’t wrestled so long.
Jericho listed three other talents who CM Punk falls into the same bracket as in regards to being away from wrestling for several years and came back to join AEW such as Sting and Christian.
Jericho was coy when asked whether CM Punk will appear inside an AEW ring. He said it would create a huge buzz that would add to the already huge buzz that they have. He brought up AEW selling 12,000 tickets at the United Center without one name even being announced shows how much anticipation there is for all of these things. He added, “we’ll see what happens.”
Finally, Jericho noted that he knows nothing about the possibility of CM Punk joining him in AEW.
“And I honestly, really don’t know. It’s something that I know nothing about. Obviously, it’s intriguing and I’ll be watching along with everybody else to see what happens. But we’ve got great momentum without Punk and we’ll have great momentum continuing without him, and great momentum with him if he shows up. So either way, I think we’ve built ourselves up into a great position right now.”
The former AEW World Heavyweight Champion will wrestle Wardlow next week on Dynamite. He’ll also be part of the commentary team for Rampage, which premieres next week.
