CM Punk wants to wrestle Bryan Danielson eventually + why he is so over in Chicago, why he chose AEW over WWE, more

CM Punk is doing the media rounds to promote tonight’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York City. Here are some highlights from his interview on the “Rasslin with Brandon F. Walker” show:

CM Punk talked about why he chose AEW over WWE:

“I had the option and I went, ’It’s the devil you know against maybe the devil you don’t know.  I know what I’m getting if I go work for Vince.  I know who he is. I know what he is. It’s not going to change. I didn’t have fun, necessarily last time I was there. I had no reason to believe it was ever going to change. I looked at what I would be doing. I’ve done it all. Who did I wrestle on that side of the fence? On the AEW side of things, I’m like a kid at Christmas. A kid like Dante Martin, I watched him and the stuff he can do. I feel like I’m watching a 1995 Nitro where it has a different feel to it. It feels gritty. It feels rough around the edges, and oh, by the way, here’s two Luchadores who had a layover in Tijuana. They’re exhausted, they go out there, and they have a 6-minute match, but they put on such a show, and they pack so much in 6 minutes and have it make sense. I’m an artist and I’m looking and I go, ‘Oh, I’ve never painted with that brush before. I can’t wait to get a hold of that brush.”

CM Punk said he was afraid when he made his AEW debut:

“I was definitely afraid, I would say. It surpassed nerves. There very much was a ‘Can I still do this? Will they remember me? Can I keep up with the young whipper snappers?’, but at the core of it, it’s storytelling, and that is what I’ve always excelled at anyway. You’re not going to see me do any springboard moonsaults and sh*t like that. You know what you get when you tune in for CM Punk.”

Punk was asked why he is so over in Chicago:

“Because the story doesn’t change. I’m still that same kid. I don’t change details of past stories. There’s no bullsh*t. I’m real.”

Punk was asked if there is competitiveness between himself and Bryan Danielson now that both have come to AEW:

“I don’t think there’s competition. I think there’s a great will and a desire to not only wrestle each other eventually, but just to have fun with all these new toys we got, all these new kids. I keep talking about wanting to tag with him. There’s just so many options.”

Punk also mentioned Hulk Hogan and he didn’t have nice things to say about him. Click here for his comments on Hogan.
