Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite was a special show not only because it served as the first show to have no fans in attendance but also marked the promotional debut of two former WWE stars.
Before the outbreak of the coronavirus, AEW had planned for Matt Hardy and Brodie Lee to make their debuts. Despite having no fans there, the promotion went forward with their plans.
Some fans have criticized the promotion for bringing in Lee and Hardy due to them previously working for WWE. TNA Wrestling was notorious for bringing in nearly any ex-WWE stars.
The AEW Executive Vice President will team up with Hardy and other members of The Elite to face The Inner Circle in the upcoming Blood & Guts match.
Matt responded to Rhodes on Twitter where he said he’s excited to change the world with Cody. This caused a backlash among some people, which Rhodes addressed.
Rhodes wrote, “Talent is talent. Merit based company. We have a great roster from all types of places(mainly blossoming independent stars). It’s a great balance.”
One fan responded to Cody’s comment by pointing out how AEW has a number of other former WWE stars under contract. These stars include the likes of Jim Ross, Chris Jericho, Dustin Rhodes, PAC, and others.
Cody responded with, “Darby, Luchasauras, Orange, Britt, Jungle, Private Party, etc etc. More unknown then known. Fresh is the term we like. Nice balance. Fresh approach.”
