Now that Darby Allin has successfully summited Mount Everest and crossed off several other “bucket list” items, the AEW original is looking toward his next evolution as a performer. During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Allin revealed a plan to incorporate live, massive-scale stunts directly into AEW programming. Inspired by legends like Evel Knievel and Travis Pastrana, Allin wants to perform a stunt and then compete in a wrestling match on the same broadcast.
“What I would like to get into is like Evel Knievel back in the day. I’d like to just, like, at the top of the hour, ‘Darby Allin is gonna jump 100 buses in this car, tune in.’ I want to do live stunts, and then do the stunt, and then if I make it out, wrestle that same night. To me, that’s the next evolution. I feel like sometimes wrestling is in this small, small bubble. Even though it’s such a massive thing, it’s still in this small, small bubble. And I would just like to push the limits of think about that for like live TV, like tonight, ‘Darby Allin is going to be drumming on her busses, and if he makes it out alive, he is going to wrestle in the main event,’ or whatever the hell you know, that would be incredible. I’d be such a fan to watch that.”
Allin also expressed interest in traveling beyond Earth, stating that “outer space would be cool” for his next big adventure. He credited his “laser focus” and willingness to listen to the “signs” of life for his current trajectory. He noted that five years ago he never would have imagined climbing Everest, but he remains open to wherever the “wind takes” him next as he continues his career at age 33.
The daredevil athlete noted that his mission in AEW remains staying true to himself without compromise. He recalled his first day of wrestling school where he vowed to either make it as himself or fail as himself, refusing to adopt traditional wrestling gear in favor of his signature look. Allin concluded by expressing deep gratitude for the creative freedom AEW owner Tony Khan has provided him, allowing him to find himself “spiritually and mentally” in the middle of his active career.
