Darby Allin: The AEW TNT Title Used to Mean Something, Within the Last Year, I Felt Like It Lost All Its Value

Darby Allin used some truth in a promo to build up his current feud with Luchasaurus and Christian Cage for the AEW TNT Title.

Although Luchasaurus is the current champion, Cage holds it and pretends to be the actual champion. Allin will challenge Luchasaurus for the title at the All Out PPV.

Cody Rhodes, who was the inaugural champion, is tied with Sammy Guevara and Wardlow for the most reigns at three, while Allin’s first reign is the longest in the history of the title at 186 days. The fan-favorite star also has the longest combined reign at 214 days.

While speaking during this week’s AEW Control Center video, Allin said the following in character:

“I’m going, to be honest when I say this. To me, the TNT championship used to mean something, and within the last year, I felt like it lost all its value. I remember the people that used to hold it, guys like Cody [Rhodes] and guys like Brodie Lee, myself. Back then, it meant something. Now it’s like a hot potato. Honestly, I feel like it’s lost its value, so when I say at All Out, I want to put some respect back on that championship’s name. I mean every word of that. Because you got a guy like Christian Cage, for example, walking around and saying he’s the champion. Like, come on, we’re not stupid. You’re just this. You’re wasting people’s time. That championship means more than that. And then you got a dinosaur as the champion that never defends it. What are we doing here? So I put out the challenge to Christian Cage—enough talking. If you think you’re a champion, start acting like a champion. I’m going to kick your ass and All Out. I’m going to take that championship. I don’t care if you think it’s yours. I don’t care if you think it’s Luchasaurus. It doesn’t matter because that at All Out, it’s going to be mine. And I’m going to put respect back on that championship’s name.

Many fans have felt this way regarding the usage of the TNT Title, which had been considered the secondary men’s championship in the promotion when it was first introduced.
