During a recent interview on Up Close w/ Renee Paquette, Juice Robinson and the host shared a hilarious and bizarre story about a fateful elevator ride in Japan that Paquette claims has “ruined” her life. The incident, which also involved Paquette’s husband, Jon Moxley, has apparently left her with a crippling fear of elevators.
The story came up when Paquette wanted to bring up a specific memory that has clearly affected her daily life. “It is really affected my day-to-day life. And I don’t know if you remember this, but you f—ed me up, Juice Robinson,” she began.
The Fateful Ride
Paquette recounted a late night in Japan where she, Robinson, and Jon Moxley were heading up to a karaoke bar in a “tiny, tiny elevator.” “It is me, Juice, and John, large men in this tiny, tiny elevator. And it is going so slow. And you go, ‘Imagine we got stuck in here forever,'” she said to Robinson.
The seemingly innocuous comment, combined with the cramped space, immediately sent Paquette into a panic. “I can’t get in elevators now. You’ve ruined my life,” she declared. “I literally, we got out the elevator, I was like, ‘I have to go outside for a minute.’ I could not recover. I’m claustrophobic to begin with. You’ve ruined my life.”
A Hazy Memory
For his part, Robinson had a slightly less vivid recollection of the traumatic event, attributing his hazy memory to the lifestyle of a wrestler in Japan. “I vaguely remember that, but at the time, I was drinking a lot of alcohol,” he admitted. “I was fully embedded in the Japanese pro wrestling lifestyle, and it was just all fantasy.”
He did, however, remember the specific type of elevator they were in. “I think I know it now. It’s going up to a karaoke spot. So it’s like, yeah, those are the worst. They’re very, very small, old, sweating, sticky, hardly maintained,” he said. Paquette’s fear was so palpable that it has now been transferred to Robinson. “Thank you. That’s so funny, but now I will think about that anytime I’m in an elevator,” he said. The story served as a humorous and revealing look at the strange and often chaotic life of wrestlers on the road.
