AEW star Dustin Rhodes has provided a new update on his recovery, two weeks after undergoing successful double-knee replacement surgery. In a post on his social media, the veteran wrestler shared a photo of his knees without the dressings and noted how “destroyed” they were before the procedure. He is now looking forward to a “slow and methodical” rehabilitation process.
“The Natural” underwent the surgery on August 21, a procedure that was done after a storyline injury he suffered during a Chicago Street Fight against Kyle Fletcher for the TNT Championship on the July 31 episode of AEW Collision. In that match, Fletcher attacked Rhodes’s leg with a screwdriver, which was the on-screen explanation for the surgery. His recovery is expected to be a long one, but the 56-year-old has vowed that this is “NOT THE END” of his in-ring career.
In his new post, Rhodes reflected on how he was able to compete for so long with the condition of his knees. “Today marks 2 wks since surgery. Don’t really know how I was doing it these last 5 yrs. Knees were destroyed,” he wrote. “Dressing off finally. I look forward to a slow and methodical rehab. Slow and steady. Thank yall for all of your support and prayers. God has it under control.”
Before getting the surgery, Rhodes held both the ROH World Tag Team and Six-Man Tag Team Championships. In addition to his in-ring career, Rhodes serves as a coach and ambassador for AEW. He has a contract with AEW that runs for another two years, and he has made it clear that he intends to see it through. We wish him a speedy recovery.
