After being the ROH World Heavyweight Champion for 224 days, Jonathan Gresham dropped the title to Claudio Castagnoli at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event. On the day of the show, he requested his release from Ring of Honor.

Before this bout, Gresham had worked for several promotions, including AEW, on two occasions.

As previously reported, Gresham had a meeting with AEW/ROH President Tony Khan where he yelled at him and was visibly frustrated. Gresham had stated in interviews leading up to the event that he had not had much communication with Khan.

While doing a signing on Highspots Superstore, AEW star Eddie Kingston gave some interesting comments regarding Gresham:

“Gresham — I don’t know, man, he just rubs me the wrong way,” Kingston said. “I don’t know. I just have a bad feeling.”

Shortly after the news came out regarding Gresham wanting out of his deal with ROH/AEW, it was reported Gresham would not be wrestling soon as he was taking time off. Gresham has yet to be granted his release from the promotion. However, he just worked Sunday's PROGRESS show.
