Eddie Kingston Suffered An Injury In NJPW Resurgence Match

Eddie Kingston recently suffered an injury ahead of AEW Double or Nothing.

After Eddie Kingston lost the NJPW Strong Openweight Title to Gabe Kidd in a no-rope last-man-standing match on Saturday night, Jack Perry came out for a staredown with Kingston, allowing The Young Bucks to attack him from behind and laying him out with the EVP trigger.

The Elite has been feuding with Kingston recently after Kingston lost the Continental title to Kazuchika Okada. It was announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite that Kingston, Bryan Danielson, and FTR would team together against The Elite in an Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing later this month.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed Kingston going down with a legitimate injury in the match, as Kingston hurt his leg when Kingston’s leg hit the barricade while taking a suplex off the apron.

Alvarez: “Alright, I want to start before we get into the entire New Japan show by talking about Eddie Kingston here. I want to be very careful with how I say this because I know how people report what we report. So when Eddie took that suplex, he took a suplex off the apron, and Gabe Kid in their match. It was no rope. No holds barred. Last Man Standing: You could only win by knockout. And the end of the match, there was a table set up between the ring and the guardrail and Gabe Kid, they were handcuffed together, Kid gives him a suplex off the apron. And if you watch it, at his leg, hit that barricade so hard.”

Meltzer: “I know, it scared the hell out of me.”

Alvarez: “It goes bam and just shoots back the other way. And he immediately grabbed his leg. And that’s the finish. And Eddie has been down for a long time. I mean, minutes on, and he’s there, and the referees come out, and there are people out talking to him, and he is not moving. And so, you know, at first, I was like, ‘Oh, man, this ain’t good.’ Finally, Jack Perry starts coming out on the ramp. And Eddie manages to get into the ring. He does stand up, and then the Young Bucks show up, and they jump in from behind. And they all stump him down. They give him a beating. They give him the BTE [EVP] Trigger. And then they talk about the pay-per-view that’s coming up. So the whole thing, you know, this angle was as it was planned to be. And Eddie did hurt his leg. So I don’t know how bad his leg is hurt. But when he went into the barricade and went down, one of the reasons it took so long for Jack Perry to come out is they were making sure that Eddie was able to get in the ring. And so you can even hear, I’m pretty sure, on the live feed. You could hear him say something like, ‘I think I can make it to the back or something like that.’ But he said he said something to one of the referees that I don’t think you were supposed to hear. He managed to get into the ring, and they were able to do the angle. But he was limping bad backstage. And I mean, the fact that he’s walking around, like, hopefully, he’s gonna be alright. But it could be a serious injury. We don’t know yet. But he definitely hurt his leg when he hit it on that guardrail, and there was concern that he wouldn’t be able to do the angle afterwards.”

There’s no further update on Kingston’s status, but we will pass it along as it becomes available. We wish Kingston a speedy recovery.
