With the rumored All Elite Wrestling startup promotion expected to get underway in 2019, the promotion’s roster and staff need to begin taking shape. With several members of The Elite already rumored to be involved, it looks like another former Ring Of Honor star will be joining the bunch. BJ Whitmer, who recently left ROH, is reportedly expected to be a part of AEW, per a report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer noted that Whitmer did a little bit of everything behind the scenes for ROH, including producing matches, being a part of the booking team, training wrestlers, doing commentary, running the Gorilla position, and more. He’s said to have a similar role with AEW once things get started. Whitmer reportedly left ROH after growing frustrated with the promotion, who did not allow him an invitation to the WWE Performance Center to serve as a guest coach.
Per PWInsider, Whitmer sent the following email to ROH acknowledging his intentions to leave the promotion:
“In leaving ROH, I want to say thank you and it’s been a pleasure working with all of you. I wish everyone nothing but the best and I’m certain I’ll cross paths with most of you again.”
