Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli last week on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam to win the championship. AEW previously announced Jericho would have a championship celebration on this show.
Bandido lost the title to Jonathan Gresham at ROH Supercard of Honor this past April in a match to determine the undisputed champion. Gresham beat Jay Lethal to win the Original World Title at ROH Final Battle after Bandido, the reigning champion at the time, was forced to miss the event due to COVID-19.
