Former WWE Star Addresses AEW Contract Rumors

After using him recently, AEW may be bringing in a former WWE star for a full-time run.

Matt Cardona is slated to challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Heavyweight Title at Final Battle tonight. Cardona has been on AEW television as of late to further promote the event. He previously worked a handful of matches for the promotion.

As Dave Meltzer previously reported, AEW has offered Cardona a contract. However, it’s unclear whether he has signed it, but Caronda does have his merchandise listed on AEW’s official shop.

While speaking with The TakeDown on SI, Cardona was asked about the rumors that AEW has offered him a deal.

“Listen, I cannot think about the future. I need to think one show at a time. I can’t be looking ahead. I need to focus day by day. That with independence, that’s what’s made me so successful is that I’m treating each opportunity like it’s the biggest deal. Because if I don’t treat it like it’s a big deal, then it’s not a big deal. So I go all in on every single thing that I do. I take one match at a time, one day at a time.”

Cardona previously stated in October that he was surprised not to be offered contracts by AEW or WWE following his success on the independent scene. While Cardona is open to a return to WWE, he has stated that he would want to be himself as he considers Zack Ryder dead.
