Nese was shown in the crowd watching the match and was acknowledged by the announcers. Nese was released by WWE in June due to ongoing company budget cuts. He was never featured in a prominent spot but his work was widely praised by wrestling fans and fellow wrestlers as one of the best wrestlers in the company.
It is not clear that he has signed with AEW but since he was acknowledged on TV and on the AEW social media accounts, it appears that some sort of deal (at least for the short term) has been worked out.
For those of you who did not see it, Danielson defeated Rhodes via guillotine submission in an excellent match.
