Matt Cardona’s future remains uncertain despite reportedly being offered a contract by All Elite Wrestling.
Cardona is currently scheduled to challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle on Friday night at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. His recent appearances on AEW programming have been building towards this high-profile match.
Dave Meltzer addressed Cardona’s contractual status during Monday night’s Wrestling Observer Radio show. When asked if the sale of Cardona merchandise on the AEW official shop signaled an imminent signing, Meltzer confirmed that “a contract was offered” but remained unsure whether it had been signed.
This news comes after Cardona expressed surprise in October at not receiving offers from either AEW or WWE. He stated his openness to discussions with both companies “if there was a good offer with some intent to use me in a certain way.” However, he acknowledged not having received any offers at that time.
Cardona’s long-term aspirations appear to lie with WWE. In August, he expressed his desire to end his career there, stating, “I want to have another WrestleMania moment, I want to be in Madison Square Garden, but as Matt Cardona. Zack Ryder is dead.”
Whether Cardona chooses to sign with AEW or pursue other opportunities remains to be seen. Fans can expect more clarity on his future following his upcoming ROH World Championship match.
