Former WWE Star Is Telling People He Isn’t Signing With AEW

Fans should not expect to see AEW bring in a former WWE star who was booked for a few appearances of late.

Last week, Matt Cardona, who has some of his merchandise listed in AEW’s official shop, fell short when he challenged Chris Jericho for the ROH World Heavyweight Title at Final Battle. As Dave Meltzer previously reported, AEW has offered Cardona a contract.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported in a Q&A that Cardona has told people he doesn’t plan on signing with the promotion.

SRS said, “There had been rumors of him being offered a contract. I don’t know if that’s true or whatever the case may be there, but he had told people that he wasn’t signed and wasn’t signing as of now with AEW. The details are far and few between.”

Cardona did suffer an ankle injury in the bout and was spotted walking with crutches following the match. However, it’s not believed to be a serious injury.
