There was some confusion last night and this morning about Hangman Adam Page’s status for AEW Revolution after he appeared to have hurt his ankle during his match on Dynamite.
Per Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, Page worked an ankle injury but he is fine the reason why he did the worked injury at the end of the match is so that he could have a cover story for why he missed the AEW Revolution pay-per-view. Page is said to be dealing with a personal issue and he may or may not be able to wrestle on the pay-per-view. He is currently scheduled to wrestle against Swerve Strickland and Samoe Joe in a three-way on that show.
Alvarez stated that since he is on vacation in Hawaii, he was not able to watch Dynamite until 1 am Eastern. He began receiving texts about Hangman before he was able to watch the show because people were wondering if he suffered an injury. For those of you who missed it, Hangman held his ankle after landing on his foot and then slipping out of the ring. Hangman could be heard telling the cameraman not to film him.
Alvarez said that he talked to people in the company who didn’t know what was going on but they heard that Hangman was hurt. In the morning, people messaged Alvarez to say that Hangman wasn’t hurt.
Alvarez said, “Essentially what happened was, Hangman is not hurt. Hangman, however, I don’t know if the people in the match knew. All I know is almost nobody knew. He worked an ankle injury. The reason that he worked an ankle is because he has something going on in his personal life and he may not be able to work the pay-per-view. So he worked this ankle injury. Essentially if he can work the pay-per-view, then I gets he can “tape it up” and work because he’s not actually hurt. If he can’t work the pay-per-view then this is the cover story as to why he can’t work the pay-per-view…virtually nobody knew about it.”
Alvarez said that it was possible that people in the match didn’t know about the worked ankle injury because he did it at the end of the match when he was no longer needed. Hangman is loved by his peers and this is not being seen as him swerving his co-workers. This is just something he did to give himself a cover reason in case he can’t be at Revolution.
