AEW’s Jake Hager is doubling down on getting a fight against Fedor Emelianenko under the Bellator MMA banner.
The legendary fighter is in the middle of his retirement tour and will fight next in Russia on October 23 against an unknown opponent.
Various names such as Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos, and Fabricio Werdum have expressed their interest in getting the fight with Fedor. However, Hager seems to be the one pushing for it the most for it.
Hager recently sent out a tweet about the fight and in an interview with MMA Fighting, he explained why he wants the fight.
Hager started out by stating that just because he has a shorter career doesn’t mean he’s not worthy and pointed out how he has a bigger following, more excitement around him, and a brighter future than those fighters mentioned above. He said that he’s going to fight for the next 10 years.
Hager stated that his past fights have shown how far deep he can dig within himself and thinks that would help him in a tough arena with unfriendly crowds in Russia.
“I really honestly believe that this is my fight. It’s been my fight since I came to Bellator. Who else do you want to see him fight in the top-10. Tyrell Fortune? Give me a break.”
