Jake Roberts says today’s talent doesn’t know how to get over, how the DDT was invented, how he got into AEW

WWE Hall Of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts was interviewed this week on Chris Van Vliet’s YouTube channel.

Roberts talked about how he got into AEW, managing Lance Archer, how Diamond Dallas Page saved his life, beating addiction, his favorite promo of all-time, his new book, crazy snake stories and more.

Jake Roberts was asked how he got into AEW:  “They called me with the idea of being paired up with Lance Archer.  They asked if I was interested and I said, well, sure.  They wanted me for 10 weeks and after that 10 weeks were up, they said, please stay.  It was great timing because had the Virus not been going on, I would have been out doing my shows all the time and I would not have had time to do this.”

Jake talked about the talent today not having the ability to get over:  “The talent today, they don’t know how to get over.  Wrestling today is all for the visual.  In my day, it wasn’t.  It was through the heart.  It was emotional.  I wanted to hook you up emotionally.  The difference is the visual lasts a split second and then the brain wants something fresh.  But emotionally, if I hook you one time, I got you for the rest of your life.”

Jake was asked where the idea for the DDT came about:  “It was an accident.  A guy stepped on my foot, we fell backwards and it was born.  I got up one morning to eat breakfast and got a newspaper from the USA Today and it said the U.S. government outlaws DDT.  It was a name of a poison that we used to use on crops that was getting in our food chain.  It was really bad stuff.  I heard that and thought, that works.”
