Last week, it was reported that AEW didn’t plan on signing them because a person of influence in WarnerMedia reportedly didn’t want the tag team to be part of the promotion due to Jay Briscoe's homophobic tweets from 2013.
Jay commented on the report and his past tweets during a recent appearance on the Battleground podcast.
"I want to say, thank you to the people who really know...we get labeled as homophobes. I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh** I've ever done. I don't want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can't care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can. I said some dumb sh** a long time ago, I apologized for it and I'll apologize for it again. It was stupid.
Jay continued by stating that he thinks there are people who look at them and think they can’t cheer for the tag team because they hate a certain group of people. Jay said they don’t hate anybody and love everyone. He thought he was taking a stand for the Lord in 2013.
Mark added that they realized from being more mature that God has love for everybody and that card trumps anything else. He said their past stance was counterproductive to the kingdom of God.
The Briscoes are the reigning ROH Tag Team Champions and will compete at ROH Supercard of Honor. Earlier this month, ROH was purchased by AEW President Tony Khan.
