Jim Ross confirms talks with All Elite Wrestling

Jim Ross may be wrapping up with WWE at the end of this month but he wasn’t joking when he said on his podcast that he wouldn’t be out of work for too long.

Ross was on ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” on Thursday and he talked about his WWE departure. As previously noted, Ross said it was an amicable departure and there is no bitterness towards WWE and there is no major controversy surrounding his departure. Ross said the writing was on the wall because he was only booked twice by WWE in 2018 so it was time to make a gracious exit.

Ross said Vince McMahon was not “overwhelmed” when he told him about leaving WWE but McMahon understood the possibilities and realizes that JR has a chance to “get back in the game, get back in the hunt.”

Ross noted that other companies may follow the trend to phase out older announcers and hire younger people but he can still carry his own weight and he hopes there will be opportunities for him.

Ross was asked about the All Elite Wrestling rumors. He said the following when asked if he is going to AEW:

“I don’t know. We’re talking, I just haven’t signed anything yet. My people and their people are doing their thing.”

Ross joked that he has a real agent now and he would love to do some voiceover work and perhaps a radio gig doing college football.
