Jim Ross On Darby Allin: “I Worry About Him All The Time”

Jim Ross shared his concern for Darby Allin following the star’s recent injury and withdrawal from the Continental Classic tournament. Ross agreed with a recent comment made by Allin that AEW management is actively trying to prevent him from taking unnecessary risks.

“I heard an interview earlier today of Darby on the radio saying he feels amazing. He feels fantastic, but AEW has still not cleared him to perform, so he’s going to be replaced in the Continental Classic,” Conrad Thompson said. “But what I loved about this interview I heard with Darby is he said something along the lines of AEW is protecting me from myself right now”.

Ross responded by acknowledging that Allin is not the first wrestler to need protection from his own reckless ambition.

“Yeah, and he wasn’t the only one,” Ross said. “Sometimes guys get that’s their… it’s almost like a panic button. I got to get noticed. I want to be a star, so I need to do this. And that’s kind of how this whole thing sorts out, in my opinion”.

Ross described Allin as a “sweetheart of a guy” but voiced deep concern over the “fearless” nature of his wrestling style, which often involves high-risk maneuvers.

“I worry about him all the time, because he never goes into a match without high expectations….and willing to take a chance,” Ross stated.

He warned that Allin’s luck will eventually run out due to the precision required for his stunts. “I told him, I said, some of these days, you know your your luck’s gonna run out, because he does things and that if you dismiss it by an inch or two, you’re in trouble. And sometimes he dodges the bullet. Sometimes he doesn’t,” Ross said.

Ross emphasized that in the current era, wrestlers must be careful not to rely on excessive violence, saying: “Don’t do too much, because you can’t put…that genie back in the bottle, right?”.
