Jim Ross Reflects on AEW Dynasty: Calls Swerve Title Outcome “Arguably” A Missed Opportunity

On the latest “Grilling JR” podcast, legendary wrestling commentator Jim Ross recently shared his thoughts and experiences regarding the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view, revealing he only participated in the opening match before leaving the event early.

Ross was on commentary for the first match of the night featuring Will Ospreay. “I enjoyed my part of it,” Ross stated. “I was on the first match of the night with Will Ospreay.” He specifically praised the competitors involved in the match he called: “I enjoyed Ospreay and Kevin Knight. They’re good. They’re both very good. It was fun in that regard.”

However, Ross confirmed he did not stay for the remainder of the pay-per-view. “I didn’t get to see the entire pay per view. I left the arena and went back to the hotel,” he admitted, adding with humor, “That’s what you get when you’re a 50-year guy. You can pull your stunts. It’s all good.”

Due to his early departure, Ross was unaware of the show’s conclusion, including the outcome of the AEW World Championship match. He noted hearing about the event’s runtime from others: “Somebody told me it was like 12:30 ’till they got out of there, 12:30 AM, and I think that might be a little bit long, but that’s just me talking.” His lack of awareness of the main event result was evident when he had to ask, “Did Swerve win the title?” informed by interviewer Conrad Thompson that Swerve Strickland did not capture the championship.

When asked if he felt AEW missed an opportunity by not putting the championship on Strickland at Dynasty, Ross offered a measured opinion. “Arguably, yes,” he responded, before adding, “Was it a deal breaker? Not really.”
