Jon Moxley’s victory at AEW Worlds End came at a painful price. During his Continental Classic semifinal match against Kyle Fletcher on December 27, the former AEW World Champion suffered a legitimate injury to his mouth after a ringside spot went wrong.
A Painful Fluke
Midway through the bout, Moxley was involved in a sequence near the steel steps. While attempting to set up a spot, he slipped and stumbled, landing face-first on the top edge of the steps. The impact was immediately visible, as Moxley emerged with a bloodied mouth and a clearly chipped tooth.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the injury was genuine. Alvarez reported shortly after the pay-per-view concluded that Moxley had “legit” split his tooth in two during the incident.
Powering Through To Victory
Despite the gruesome injury, Moxley continued the match without missing a beat. He went on to defeat Fletcher via submission to advance to the finals later in the night. In the tournament final, he faced reigning champion Kazuchika Okada and secured a victory to become the new Continental Champion, ending Okada’s 647-day reign.
The victory marks Moxley’s first Continental Classic tournament win after reaching the finals in 2023. Following the match, he cut a promo dedicating the win to the fans and the locker room, seemingly unbothered by the damage to his smile.
